Tuguldur (Tuugu) Ulziidelger is completing the Vantage program at UBC this summer of 2019. He is an engineering student, and soon to be studying a specialization of electrical engineering. He is truly passionate about music and always try to bring joy to people with his music. He is a member of “UBC A Capella” and thinks that joining the club was one of the best decisions he has ever made during the first year of university. His way of meeting new people and building long-lasting friendship was through his passion for music so that he is surrounded by people who have similar interests and perspectives. Other than music, he is a big fan of golf. Tuugu decided to pursue a career in the engineering field since a young age to try bringing a happy place for people. He proudly says that the Vantage program helped him to explore his interest in this field, and make his career path a little more distinct. The capstone project was one of his best ways to practically try out engineering tasks, which motivated him to try harder to build a better product. His team made a clothes dryer in the most creative way possible by elevating the initial prototype with the limited resources that were provided. His team successfully built a fully-functional machine that has satisfied him and his teammates with its outstanding design and accessibility that was made with a knowledge of first-year Engineering students. 11-month journey made him understand much more than he could ever imagine. He is very thankful for every single person who contributed to his journey and made it a great beginning of the next chapter of his life.

Management stream
I’m a management student of Vantage College. I feel very special to be the one and only Indian to have ever been a part of Vantage College. I’m highly grateful for my experience at Vantage as it was a culmination of everything that I ever wanted as university education – a multicultural arrangement of individuals sharing their knowledge and experience about academics, language, culture, and life. I aspire to be an entrepreneur. I’m driven to create businesses that are sustainable, scalable and essential to all sectors of society, while they make monetary gains simultaneously. My entrepreneurial inspiration is my father and I wish to be as successful as him. Our dreams, aspirations, and desires become our reality only if we execute them with ethical intent and honest hard work. However, most of the time we sacrifice what we need to gratify an instant want and regret our decision - which brings me to my research topic: The impact of procrastination on Vantage College students. A large number of university students feel that procrastination is harming their lives and they are unaware of how to overcome it. My research’s motive is to act as a revelation to my peers that will motivate them to overcome procrastination by equipping a strong will to achieve everything they desire. My interests are playing the guitar, traveling, writing poetry, participating in sports and racing. These activities have given me immense pleasure and knowledge that I implement in academics and business which I would be delighted to share at the Vantage One Capstone Conference.

Mengshan liarts streamMengshan Li is a current Vantage Arts student, and wants to major in psychology next year. She enjoys doing exercise and travelling during her spare time because it is a way for her to take a break and relax from the pressure of study. She also enjoys hard work and being immersed in her study as this provides a great feeling of accomplishment. The qualities she admires the most are sincerity, honesty and sharing with others. By keeping people with these qualities around her, she believes it will make herself more positive, energetic and happy in her own life. Mengshan’s goal is to keep improving, exploring and learning all the time, she says, “You never stop learning unless you think you don’t need to learn.”. Failing is never an option for her, because learning is a way to be a better person. Her project in the Capstone conference is about exploring correlation between Working Memory (WM) and Vantage students’ decision making. Decision-making ability is a common phenomenon for most students, especially when they are doing multi-choice quizzes. Therefore, this research could further contribute students’ understanding of WM which can promote their utilization of WM to improve their learning.
